Kurt Ison is amongst a small handful of professional organists in Australia. He was educated to postgraduate level at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and has had several private lessons from European Masters in such places as St Gervais, Paris and San Petronio, Bologna. He has played solo concerts in prestigious venues around the world such as Notre Dame Cathedral Paris, Marktkirche, Wiesbaden, the Annakirche Aachen, St Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey, London, Washington National Cathedral, St Thomas’s Church, fifth avenue, NYC and the Hong Kong Cultural Center Concert Hall. He has also performed solo recitals at the Town Halls in Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane and cathedrals in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Kurt has played in a number of European festivals and has toured Europe to give concerts several times.
He is the Organist at three churches in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs as well as playing at several others and is Organist and Organ Teacher at 3 of Sydney’s leading private schools.
Earlier in 2017, he had the privilege of performing the chorale phantasie ‘Ein feste Burg’ by Max Reger at both the Marktkirche Wiesbaden, the Annakirche Aachen and Christ Church St Laurence, Sydney to mark the 500th Lutheran anniversary.
Kurt is also a published composer. His Missa Brevis for Female voices and organ was premiered at Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris and subsequently published by J Butz Musikverlag, Bonn. It is now sung regularly by the Mädchenchor of the Aachener Dom and has been performed by other choirs in Europe and Australia. |
